Summary: Ugcdb, the User-Generated Content Database, provides a centralized repository of profile information for the people behind the scenes of user-generated content - whether it's videos, photos, podcasts, or blogs. The content is all cross-referenced to make it easier to see who is in what and what else they have done. The profile information comes from user submissions and dedicated content editors who comb the web for interesting background information. The bios are written in a neutral point-of-view, but allow for users' personal comments and ratings.

Mobile Search

Summary: Helped major MVNO develop and launch a new mobile search application for a newly released device. Users' can enter a search directly from the keypad that spawns the web search application retrieving results from the MVNO, Yahoo, Google, Wikipedia, Yelp, and Amazon. The search engine result page (SERP) featured a tab design for navigating the search results from premium content, Yahoo, Google, Wikipedia, Yelp, and Amazon. This application generated quite a lot of buzz and positive press.

Mobile Photo - Shnork www.shnork.com

Summary: Shnork is a mobile photo and social networking site. Users receive SMS messages periodically with a "theme" of a picture to take - i.e. "Take a picture of something beautiful". Users snap a photo of the theme with their camera phone and upload it to the site via MMS for others to comment on and review.

Role: Founder, implementation

Technology: PHP development in Linux, Apache, MySql environment including development of an SMS parsing handler.

Email Storage Service

Summary: Helped a start up build an external email storage service. Helped flush out initial business idea. Designed UI and built all front and back-end code.

Photo Content Management

Summary: Developed web based Photo Content Management application for uploading, tagging, and viewing photos.

MVP Research Tool (through Dannay Consulting)

Summary: The MVP Research Tool is a web based survey tool to determine top performers in a company and provide feedback for personal success and areas of growth. In addition to the survey, the site includes management tools for maintaining survey takers and companies as well as generating a variety of reports in PDF and html format. The tool is almost entirely customizable and maintainable via web based forms.

Role: Developer

Technology: PHP development in Linux, Apache, MySql environment with additional components for PDF and graphic generation.

Fax Stamper

Summary: The Fax Stamper "stamps" ids on faxes transmitted electronically. The stamping tool integrates into a proprietary Fax handling software. The tool locates available white space in the top margin of the page to place the stamp overlay - it can handle multiple page faxes as well.

Role: Developer.

Technology: Server components written in C# .Net.

Mobile Inventory Application

Summary: The mobile inventory application works with the Mobile Elevator Manager to provide an easy way to maintain parts and tools inventories. The application runs on Nextel mobile phones equipped with Symbol barcode scanners. Scans are delivered wirelessly to the Mobile Elevator Manager web based application. The application queues data to handle cases when there are wireless connectivity issues.

Role: Inventor, Developer.

Technology: Client application developed in J2ME for Nextel phones with Symbol Barcode scanners. Server side development in ASP / XML in Windows environment.

Knowledge Management Tool (through Dannay Consulting)

Summary: Modified and Integrated 3rd Party Knowledge Management Tool into Dannay Consulting's clients' websites. The KM Tool provided FAQ, search, and feedback functionality. Modified tool to provide feedback mechanisms.

Role: Developer.

Technology: PHP in Linux environment with Apache and MySQL database.

FelixFoto

Summary: FelixFoto is a photo album application and web service for Blackberry devices. Users upload and manage their photo collections on the FelixFoto website. The FelixFoto client connects to the web service to download and store photos locally on the Blackberry. The client features slide show capabilities.

Role: Inventor, Developer.

Technology: Client application written in J2ME using RIM APIs. Server side development in JSP/Servlets in Linux environment with Apache and MySQL. User interface design using Photoshop and Illustrator.

Yahoo Music

Summary: Helped Yahoo Music (formerly Launch) debug and fix video music player application. Additionally implemented marketing and advertising web pages and emails.

Role: Developer.

Technology: XML / ASP in Windows environment.

Shadow 7 Publishing

Summary: Helped integrate Shadow 7 Publishing tool and BV Commerce application into a major Southern California Newspaper. The publishing tool handled classified ad publishing.

Role: Developer. Wrote documentation and UML use case diagrams for proposal.

Technology: Development in C# .Net in Windows environment using SqlServer and BV Commerce. UML modeling using Visio.

Wireless Game Company

Summary: Helped a start up wireless game company develop a prototype game. I was primarily responsible for the WAP version of the game, but also contributed to the server components, J2ME version, and related website components.

Role: Developer.

Technology: Server components written in JSP/Servlets in Linux environment using PostgreSQL database. J2ME and Servlet development using Eclipse. Nokia, Sony, and Openwave development kits used to test WML functionality across a variety of WAP browsers.

Wireless Software Company

Summary: Helped port an existing J2ME application to the Motorola T720 platform. The J2ME application allowed users to view graphical representations of baseball games real time on their J2ME enabled phones.

Role: Developer.

Technology: J2ME development using Motorola and Nokia development kits and the Sun One Studio (formerly Forte).

PHP Training

Summary: Helped teach PHP, javascript, sql, and mysql to an independent contract developer. Assisted developer with client's website development.

Technology: PHP, javascript, and sql trainging and development in Windows and Linux environments using mysql.

Puzzelar www.puzzelar.com

Summary: Puzzelar is an addicting strategy game for adults and children ages 10 and up.

Role: Inventor.

Technology: E-commerce processing on Puzzelar website is JSP/Servlet based in linux environment with Tomcat Servlet Engine, mySql database, and Verisign Payflow Pro credit card processor. Graphic Design and UI Design with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

Equinox Fitness Tracker

Summary: Equinox is a national chain of fitness centers headquartered in New York City. The Fitness tracker application is a mobile application for personal trainers to use while coaching a client. The personal trainer will use a PDA to capture the client's workout which will save the data to a server that can be accessed later by the client via the web to view workout history and progress.

Role: Architect, Developer.

Technology: Application writen in C# and XML/XSL using ASPX pages in Microsoft's .NET framework. Mobile interface optimized for Compaq iPaq PocketPC.

Major Teleconferencing Company

Summary: Helped a major teleconferencing company integrate a 3rd party billing solution. Project included creating scripts for migrating and transforming data from numerous teleconferencing databases and data sources to a single SqlServer database to be used by the billing software.

Role: Consultant.

Technology: Data transformations and scripts created using Data Junction's ETL tool. Databases consisted of Oracle, SqlServer, and flat files.

Teleconference Billing Company

Summary: Helped a start-up teleconference billing company draft a proposal to a major telephone company; transformed data using Data Junction's ETL tool; and modified components in the billing software.

Role: Integration Consultant.

Technology: Data transformations and scripts created using Data Junction ETL tool. Modifications to billing components in VB using Visual Studio.

Zêtre www.zetre.com

Summary: Zêtre is a challenging game involving math, a time limit, and an element of chance. The game can easily be adjusted for any age or skill level.

Role: Inventor. I invented this game in 2000. I learned how to write and file a patent which incidently was awarded in 2001 (US Patent 6,341,779). I had to source the construction of the game components overseas in China and India. In 2000, I exhibited the game at the American International Toy Fair in New York. A number of stores and catalog companies currently carry it.

Summary: Mobile Elevator Manager is a wireless application that allows field employees to access company information while out in the field via a web enabled phone or palm pilot.

Summary: The MIT Wireless Forum is a monthly speaker series focusing on wireless topics.

Role: Chairman, co-Founder. In addition to organizing and running the events, I designed the website.

Technology: Architecture based on JSP Model 2 "Control-Model-View" featuring JSP/Servlets in Linux environment with Tomcat Servlet Engine and mySql database.

Referral Networks

Summary: Referral Networks is an HR Application Service Provider.

Role: Product Manager of Soap Compliant HR XML based interface for joining Job Posting, Candidate Tracking, and Referral Posting applications.

Technology: Development in XML, HR XML, VB in NT environment. UML Modeling with TogetherJ

Polaroid

Summary: Polaroid wanted to expand its iZone brand with wireless applications including Picture Messaging - the ability to send pictures to and from mobile phones. Its a technology similar to SMS text messaging.

Role: Wireless expert. Researched Picture Messaging, mobile handset capabilities, and carrier platforms and 3G migration paths.

Princeton Review

Summary: The Princeton Review acquired myEssay.com's technology.

Role:Negotiated deal with Princeton Review. Modified code for Princeton Review's purpose.

Technology: Architecture based on JSP Model 2 "Control-Model-View" featuring JSP/Servlets in Linux environment with Tomcat Servlet Engine, mySql database, and Verisign Payflow Pro Processor.

myEssay.com

Summary: MyEssay.com was the leading online essay review service for college bound students. The technology was sold to Princeton Review in 2001.

Role:CTO, Co-Founder. Architected, developed website. Actively involved in business development, VC fund raising, marketing, and partner relationship development.

Technology: MyEssay.com featured a role and skill based workflow system for tracking essays as they went through the review process, maintaining a network of freelance readers, and handling payroll. Architecture based on JSP Model 2 "Control-Model-View" featuring JSP/Servlets in Linux environment with Tomcat Servlet Engine, mySql database, and Verisign Payflow Pro Processor.

Vindigo (through Vettro)

Summary: This project was done through Vettro, a wireless consulting firm. Vindigo is a location based content provider. Users can search for bars, restaurants, movies, and shops in their area from a WAP enabled device.

Role:Technical Architect, Lead Developer. Led team of developers in modeling and development. Taught UML modeling methods to teammates and clients.

Technology: Architecture based on Servlet / JSP Model 2 architecture. Development in JSP, Servlets, WML, and RMI using Tomcat/Enhydra servlet engine on Linux platform.

SportsYa! (through Viant)

Summary: This project was done through Viant, an internet consulting firm. SportsYa! is a spanish language sports portal.

Role:Lead Technologist. Led team to develop JSP/Servlet prototype to display sports statistical information. Trained and mentored junior developers. Helped client with recruiting and staffing. Involved with researching and testing application servers, servlet engines, source control systems, sports statistics feed providers, and content caching applications.

Technology: UML modeling with TogetherJ to model use cases and technical architecture. Architecture based on JSP Model 2 - "model-view-controller" - architecture. Research and development includes ATG Dynamo, Tomcat servlet engine, JRun, Akamai, Sandpiper, and StarTeam source control.

CH1 Communications

Summary: CH1 Communications developed the Sidecast Network - an innovative approach to advertising that played off the convergence of the internet with television.

Role:Developer. Developed components of content management system to handle ad placement and tracking.

Technology: Development included PHP, JavaScript in Linux environment with mySql database.

Viant Extranet (through Viant)

Summary: This project was done while at Viant, an internet consulting firm. Viant wanted an extranet for new hires to allow them to assimilate and learn Viant cultures and methodology prior to their start date. The application featured the ability to upload resumes and contact information, view company information, view training class schedules and outlines, and learn other valuable information about the company, fellow co-workers, and methodologies. The site was almost completely updateable via web-based forms.

Role: Lead Technologist, Project Mananger. Managed cross-disciplanary team of designers, technologists, and strategists. Architected and developed extranet.

Technology: Development in ASP, JavaScript, in NT environment with SQL Server database.

Major Financial Company (through Viant)

Summary: This project was done through Viant, an internet consulting firm. Developed Electronic Forms and Applications piece of an extranet for a major national discount broker. The area of the site allows users to fill out and auto-populate PDF forms with data stored on both client and server side machines.

Role:Senior Developer. Modeled and developed EF&A piece of extranet. Mentored junior developers.

Technology: Development included java applets that interacted with client side databases, java servlets, jhtml pages, and web enabled PDF forms.

Radio Shack (through Viant)

Summary: This project was done through Viant, an internet consulting firm. Developed store intranet that allows employees to research past purchases, look up and process warranties, and search for products.

Role:Senior Developer. Defined and implemented the technical infrastructure for all current and future intranet applications. Modeled and developed two of the three applications as well as contributed to common core components. Trained junior developers. Knowledge Capture Manager for identifying and recommending best practices and objects for reuse.

Technology: Development in Java COM, ASP, in NT environment. Implemented stateless COM objects to leverage MTS based on Windows DNA.

Viant Intranet (through Viant)

Summary: This project was done while at Viant, an internet consulting firm. Viant wanted an intranet for HR related resource information. The "Resource Centers" featured company benefit information, news, marketing collateral, and other resource information. The site was easily updateable via web-based forms.

Role:Lead Technologist, Project Mananger. Managed cross-disciplanary team of designers and technologists. Architected and developed intranet.

Technology: Development in ASP, JavaScript, in NT environment.

Core Camera

Summary: Core Camera manufactures and sells security cameras and accessories.

Role:Technical Architect, Developer. Developed e-commerce enabled website and catalog for Core Camera's products.

Technology: Development includes PHP in Linux environment with mySql database. Site design using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

iVillage.com Electronic Postcards

Summary: iVillage is a virtual community for women. Among other things, the site featured an electronic postcard application that allowed users to send virtual postcards.

Role:Developer. Updated and modified existing web application for delivering electronic postcards.

Technology: Development in PERL, HTML, in Unix environment.

iVillage.com Project Management Tool

Summary: iVillage is a virtual community for women. They were looking for an internal tool for submitting, tracking, scheduling and maintaining projects.

Role:Technical Architect, Developer. Developed web based project management tool. Tool features screens for submitting proposals, maintaining meetings and deadlines, as well as screens for searching and displaying projects in calendar and tabular format.

Technology: Development in PERL, HTML in Linux environment MySQL database.

Popularitics

Summary: Popularitics was a virtual community for discussing politics that featured an online trading simulation where a user could buy and sell politicians as if they were stock.

Role:Founder. Conceptualized and realized online community for discussing politics. Designed, coded, and marketed entire site which features CGIs for dynamic content generation, database driven content, surveys, market research data gathering, community building, chatting, and games. Installed and configured database and modules to access database.

Technology: Development in PERL, JavaScript, HTML, PhotoShop in Linux environment running Apache Server and MySQL database.

Apoll.com

Summary: Apoll.com was a central survey service. apoll.com offered a poll delivery service to provide fun, interactive content for client sites. Clients need only add one html tag to their page in order to include an apoll.com poll.

Role:Founder. As the founder of apoll.com, I developed and maintained the site as well as took on all marketing responsibilities.

Technology: Development in Java, PERL, JavaScript, HTML in Linux environment running Apache Server and mySQL database.

VAS

Summary: VAS - Visual Authentication System - is an innovative system for securing content.

Role:Developer. Implemented web based access authentication applet for securing site content. Enhanced existing application, developed web site.

Technology: Development in PERL and Java 1.0.2.

MIT Club of New York

Summary: The MIT Club of New York is the local alumni chapter of MIT in New York City. The site is an online community for MIT Alumni living in the New York Area. The site features a current listing of club events, a message board, an email distribution list, trivia questions, sign up forms, and useful information about club and related resources. Administration of the site is accomplished via web based tools and utilities that I created.

The site one a number of awards including: honors for outstanding Alumni Website at Fall 1997 MIT Alumni Leadership Conference and alumni spotlight website of the week.

Role:VP Communications, webmaster. As Vice-President of Communications, I designed and coded the entire site and updated it frequently from February 1997 to February 1999. At the same time, I chaired committee to develop communications strategy for 3500 local alumni. In 1998, I spoke at 1998 MIT Alumni Leadership Conference web workshop

MeToo Network

Summary: The MeToo Network is an online community for children fostering education as well as entertainment. Site features CGIs for delivering dynamic content, user specific content, database interaction, online reviews, surveys, interviews, online authoring, games, chating, and email. First children's network to provide safe, free, web-based email.

The site won a number of awards including: WATPA Site of the Month, April 1998; and three JARS top 25% awards for java applet games.

Role:Founder. As the founder of the MeToo network, I designed, coded, and marketed the entire site.

Technology: Development in Java 1.0.2, Perl, JavaScript, HTML, PhotoShop Environment: Linux, Apache Server, mySQL.

TFS Energy (through Coopers & Lybrand)

Summary: This project was done through Coopers & Lybrand, a consulting firm (now PriceWaterHouseCoopers). TFS Energy is an energy brokerage firm specializing in natural gas and electricity markets.

Role:Designed and developed a JAVA applet for displaying commodity prices in near real-time for a major electricity broker. Applet makes use of Pull technology reading prices from a flat file.

Technology: Development in Java 1.0.2, HTML, ASP, JavaScript. Enviroment: NT 4.0, IIS 3.0, SQLServer.

RandomHouse Publishing

Summary: RandomHouse Publishing is one of the major publishing houses in the world. I was hired there fulltime in a joint IT/New Media role.

Role:Internet Developer, New Media Liason. Developed CGIs for dynamic content generation, database interaction, statistics gathering, user information gathering, web tools, and basic form processing. Designed JAVA Applet games for juvenile content area. Maintained, analyzed site/user statistics. Involved in internet commerce solution, and web-user marketing database gathering processes. Acted as liason to Corporate New Media department.

Summary: Fodors is a division of Random House Publishing that focuses on travel and travel guides.

Role:Developer. Coded CGIs for delivering dynamic database driven content. Coded front end CGIs for Fodor's Online Catalog, Park Station, and Vacation Station.

Technology: Development in C++, HTML. Environment: SGI Indies running IRIX 5.3, Illustra Database, Netscape Enterprise Server, Open Market, ICAT.

Summary: myHub was a web-based enterprise softwared alternative featuring web-based email, address book, and calendaring functions.

Role:Developer. Developed web-based email application, address book, and calendaring functions.

Addison NY

Summary: Addison NY was an interactive advertising agency.

Role:Developer. Coded JAVA applet for displaying messages and providing redirection. Applet is fully customizable via PARAM tags to allow easy adjustment of fade speed, message speed, font size, font type, colors, etc.

Poppe Tyson

Summary: Poppe Tyson was a new media / internet design firm.

Role:Internet Developer. Coded HTML and CGI for client websites.
